How to Keep Your Dog Cool This Summer ❄️

With Summer on its way, it's so much fun to be able to bring your furry BFF with you in the car on all your planned adventures! However, it is so easy for them to get too excited and quickly overheat. Temperatures can soar, especially with the Australian Sun and this can be extremely dangerous for your dog. We have outlined some tips within this blog to help ensure you are protecting your pet this Summer and beyond. We recommend making a 'travel box' to keep all of the suggested items stored away for easy access in your car boot.

1. Always, always bring more than enough water for your pet!

When you travel anywhere with your dog don't assume there will be taps everywhere you go. Always be prepared and bring more than enough fresh water for your pet.

2. Pack a portable pet water bowl

You can find portable water bowls very easily or even a portable pet bottle with a built-in cup. Leave one of these in your car for easy and quick access.

3. Circulate cool air within the car

We recommend winding up the windows and popping on that air-con! This will help reduce your pets body temperature much quicker than fresh air on those particularly hot days! However, if you prefer the windows down always ensure your pet is secured using a tether (or a Waggs & Bone Luxury Travel Bed which comes with built-in attachments to secure your pet).

4. NEVER EVER leave your pet in a parked car alone

Not even for a minute, the heat in a car can build up extremely quickly and this is sadly the cause of hundreds of deaths every year for pets in Australia alone.

5. Know your pet's limitations

This is especially critical for any pets that may suffer from heart or lung problems, are elderly or overweight. Also, if your dog has a flat shaped face, also known as Brachycephalic, they have narrow airways and can overheat EXTRA quick! 

 6. Get yourself a Cooling Mat
